The Twelve Months of Figtree

With the holiday season nearly upon us, now’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on successes shared with tutors, team members and all of our Figtree families. So, as we swap the pear tree for Figtree, and French hens for French lessons, we hope you enjoy our ‘Twelve Months of Figtree’ – with very best wishes from us all.

5,000 hours taught

From pre-schoolers to postgraduates, sciences to Spanish, our tutors have taught an incredible 5,000 hours this year (and counting).

100 new tutors

We’ve welcomed tutors from around the world to Figtree this year, with specialists including US college gurus, 11+ masters and interview technique teachers. As we head into 2023, we’ll be bringing a 350-strong team of talented tutors with us.

200 new families

Whether helping a family navigate the British education system as they relocate to the UK, supporting children to secure a spot at their favourite school or guiding students into higher education, we’ve been proud to work with over 200 new families in 2022 alone.

100% school entrance success rate

Working across the key entry points of the 7+, 11+ and 13+, not to mention a few in-year starters too, we’ve had a 100% success rate in helping our children gain a place at one of their chosen schools, including King’s College Wimbledon, St Paul’s Boys and Girls, Latymer Upper, Westminster, Sevenoaks, Wellington and Wycombe Abbey.

40+ subjects unpacked

Our tutors are hand-picked for their broad and varied experience, and with experts across the curriculum, we’ve been able to support students in over 40 different disciplines – from core subjects across the humanities and sciences to more niche skills such as Farsi, Swedish, social media management, coding, sewing and corporate finance.

More academic assessments than ever

Our academic assessments have proven a vital stepping stone on the way to top schools (and universities) this year – as well as providing much-needed reassurance that candidates are on track. Led by our School Entrance Director, Rishi, we’ve delivered more academic assessments than ever before, across English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

Expert Figtree training delivered

With so much change over the last few years, it’s critical to stay up to speed with the latest requirements from exam boards, schools and even students. That’s why our leadership team has been delivering many hours of training to our tutors, across everything from tutoring fundamentals to advanced exam preparation.

Innovating new ways to learn

We’re always looking for new ways to support our students and their families, and this year saw the introduction of our one-day medical school application course, as well as the first of our targeted 11+ group classes.

Sharing tips and experiences

Over the year, our regular newsletters and blog posts have showcased over 18 interviews, stories and insights from across the Figtree team (and beyond), diving into everything from the benefits of academic accelerators to the secrets behind a great Oxbridge application.

Supporting the Figtree Foundation

Fairness and equality have always been central to the Figtree ethos – never more so than through our Foundation, established to bring the benefits of expert education to all. This year we’ve been working with Fox Primary School to support pupil premium students with their numeracy. Weekly sessions and 200 worksheets later, the school has seen better performance and behaviour across all students, with every single one returning from last year’s pilot programme.

Countless team meetings, endless cups of coffee…

While our tutors have been dedicated to supporting all of our students, our leadership team has been busy behind the scenes too. Building our network, making new connections, supporting our tutors and providing round-the-clock advice to clients.

…And one new team member

To ensure we continue delivering this level of support – and can go even further in the New Year – we welcomed Camilla Gordon-Finlayson to our central team. With a background in administrative support in the private school sector, Camilla will be helping with all our day-to-day operations.

So, as we wrap up for 2022, we wish you all the very best of the season. However you celebrate, may this be a restful time spent with loved ones (and a good book or two). Thank you for your continued trust and we look forward to another year of inspired learning together.
