We all learn, develop and thrive in our own way. And at Figtree, we think it’s important to embrace a varied approach to education. So if you’ve decided homeschooling is right for your child, we’re here to ensure it’s as productive and effective as any of the top schools.
Our qualified homeschooling tutors are all skilled across the school syllabus, and will work with you and your child to develop a personalised programme that meets your needs. Whether supporting full- or part-time homeschooling, our flexible sessions are designed to fit around your life and your values.
Making learning go further
With dedicated, one-to-one support from a homeschool tutor, children can cover more material, in greater depth, in less time. It’s a highly efficient way to teach, and the growing number of homeschooled children in leading higher education institutions is testament to its success.
Our whole ethos is built on the belief that children learn in different ways, and our homeschooling tutors will adapt their approach accordingly, drawing on various teaching techniques to bring out the best in every student. Supported by an extensive database of teaching materials and resources, homeschool tutoring with Figtree becomes a focused, personalised learning experience that’s tailored to your child’s needs.
How does homeschooling work?
We work hard to make the process as effortless as possible for parents, building a complete, personalised programme to bring the best educators into your home. From scheduling sessions to selecting subjects, we take care of every detail – collaborating closely with you and your child to ensure our timetables tick all the boxes.
Initial consultation: It’s important for us to understand your reasons and aspirations for homeschooling so we can take a truly tailored approach. We like to get started by meeting the family, talking through your goals and explaining how the process works. As part of this initial consultation, we’ll conduct an academic assessment to identify your child’s current level, so we can target our support accordingly.
Programme design: Once we’ve established your child’s abilities and academic goals, we’ll work on a personalised plan that closes the gap. Our tutors work across curricula and exam boards, so we can create a comprehensive homeschooling timetable that harnesses your child’s preferred learning styles to deliver the best possible results.
Continual feedback: Our homeschooling support doesn’t stop at the end of the lesson. You’ll have a dedicated point of contact within the Figtree team who will provide weekly progress reports – consolidating feedback from across your homeschooling team to make sure everyone stays on track.
One of the advantages of homeschooling is the flexibility it provides, and this is something we always try to support. Our tutors are available from first thing in the morning into the early evening, throughout the course of the week, so you can arrange sessions for the times that suit you best.
If your child is only partially homeschooled, we can liaise with their school to ensure learning is coherent and comprehensive. In the run up to public exams, we will make arrangements with the relevant exam bodies, work closely with your child on the required material to make sure they’re prepared, and can even hold mock exams to recreate the conditions on the day.
Educating every day
Parents are increasingly turning to homeschooling as a way to provide a more well-rounded education, and at Figtree we believe there are learning opportunities everywhere you look. That’s why we aim to go beyond the curriculum and bring lessons to life in unexpected ways. Daily activities like baking can be a great way to develop maths skills. Out and about, there are museums and galleries to explore – sparking curiosity and reinforcing core concepts. By enabling children to apply their studies in the real world, our homeschooling tutors transform lessons into life skills.
