This month we talk to James Kassam, Head of Marketing at RoosterMoney, about how the app is helping parents to raise more financially savvy children. Read on to discover more, and to receive your exclusive discount code.
Can you tell us a little about your role at RoosterMoney?
As Head of Marketing at RoosterMoney I’m responsible for making sure we spread the word to as many parents and children as possible about what we do. Ultimately, it’s all about fulfilling our mission to transform the way the world talks about money.
What is Rooster, and what was the inspiration behind the app?
We started RoosterMoney because we believe the world would be a better place if everyone started talking about money a little earlier in life. It’s a pocket money app that helps parents teach their children the value of money in today’s digital age.
Simple, progressive and gameful, the app brings to life all the sound, traditional financial principles we were brought up with (or wish we were!) and makes managing money smart, relevant and fun.
Families can start using the app as a star or reward chart, then graduate to a pocket money tracker, before moving onto the Rooster Card when they’re ready.
How does Rooster help children learn about money?
From as young as four years old, you can use the app to award your children with Stars, as a first introduction to the concept of earning and rewards. When they’re ready, you can move them onto the Pocket Money Tracker, that lets children keep track of their earnings, save towards goals, and develop good money habits. Parents oversee what money goes in and out – so you remain the ‘bank of mum and dad’ without having to make actual deposits. This core set of features within the app is free to use.
As children get older, they can graduate to ‘real money’ with our Rooster Card, giving you flexible parental controls, and giving them the independence to make considered choices about saving and spending in a safe environment.
We believe the best lessons are learnt by ‘doing’. RoosterMoney encourages families to learn together so that parents can actively educate, motivate and empower their children financially – giving everybody the reassurance that they’re ready to face the future.
What’s the advantage for parents?
The main advantage is that it helps you raise money-smart children who are confident with money, so when they do step out into the ‘real’ world, they’re fully prepared and better equipped to take on the challenges that life will throw at them.
What’s next for Rooster?
We launched the Rooster Card earlier this year in the UK, but we also have a large customer base all over the world, especially in the US and Australia – who use our core free product and RoosterPLUS features. The next step for us is all about spreading the word as far as possible and achieving our mission to transform the way we talk about money with our children.
